Urban planning integrates land use planning and transportation planning to improve the built, economic and social environments of communities. Regional planning deals with a still larger environment, at a less detailed level. Positions such as Planning Technicians, Development Technicians, Mapping Technicians, Civic Addressing Technicians, or Graphic Technicians are often available.
Many job opportunities are available with municipal and provincial government departments dealing with parks, economic development commissions, and development control agencies, and in the private sector with planning consultants, engineering/survey firms or any firm involved in mapping. Planners are helping to plan communities that are both socially and environmentally sensitive and with suitability studies on potential development sites
